1.  92nd Birthday Sadhana and Program Schedule

Dear Members,

Please read the attached letter from Dr. Reddy regarding the SSIO Sadhana (spiritual practice) program for all to follow from Oct 23 – Nov 23 in honor of Swami’s 92nd Birthday. Also attached is a calendar of events in Puttaparthi for November.

(FYI: The Rathotsavam (Chariot Festival) at Prasanthi Nilayam is a tradition that goes back to the early 1950’s. This festival marks the beginning of the Birthday Celebrations of Sathya Sai Baba. On this day, the university students, chanting Vedic hymns and singing Bhajans (devotional songs) , lead a procession with the idol of Lord Krishna on a rath (chariot) and the idols of Lord Rama, Lakshmana and Mother Sita on a palanquin from Sai Kulwant Hall to the Old Mandir, or what is now the Kalyana Mantapam (wedding hall), in the village of Puttaparthi. After worship is offered to the deities, the idols of Rama, Lakshmana and Sita return to the Mandir. Later, in the evening, the idols are taken out in a procession in the village of Puttaparthi, amidst joyous celebration by the villagers.)

Loving Sairams.

4.  SSE Initiative – Heal The Environment

We are encouraging all SSE Children to engage in the (Heal the Environment, Love the Planet (H.E.L.P) initiative for which submission date has been extended to 23rd November 2017 – more information can be found on www.sathyasai.org/ya/serve-the-planet-2017/sse-help.

Today, all the five elements are polluted and, consequently, man is mired in insecurity. Today the world is losing its ecological balance as man, out of utter selfishness, is robbing mother Earth of her resources like coal, petroleum, iron, etc. As a result, we find earthquakes, floods and such other devastating natural calamities. Human life will find fulfilment only when ecological balance is maintained. Balance in human life and balance in nature, both are equally important.

Sathya Sai Baba, 26 May 1992

5.  Serve the Planet Update

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Om Sri Sai Ram.

We wish you a happy and holy Vijaya Dashami and I pray for Swami’s blessings and grace on this auspicious occasion.

Every year, the SSIO celebrates Avatar Declaration Day on 20th October with a global service project, “Serve the Planet”.

This year, the theme selected by the Sathya Sai Young Adults, who are leading the project, is ‘Protect the Planet’.

We will be focusing on caring for our environment in light of Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings on Ceiling on Desires (COD), with respect to the reduction/elimination of plastic, conservation of water and consumption of nutritious food which supports spiritual growth.

6.  Akhanda Gayathri Chanting

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Om Sri Sai Ram.

The SSIO is happy to inaugurate a sacred programme of Global Akhanda Gayatri chanting – namely, continuous chanting of the Gayatri round the clock, all over the world. You may register to participate at the website http://gayatri.sathyasai.org/  which also describes the meaning of Gayatri mantra, how to chant the mantra, the benefits of chanting and when to chant the mantra. The website allows you to select the time slot and frequency for chanting Gayatri.

Gayatri is a universal prayer which is addressed to the immanent and transcendent divine. The Gayatri mantra is sacred, and is considered the mother of all scriptures. It is non-denominational and can be chanted by anyone to illumine the intellect. Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has emphasized that chanting of the Gayatri mantra is good for spiritual seekers everywhere, irrespective of nationality, race, religion, faith and gender. Gayatri will protect us wherever we are – travelling, working, or at home. Research has shown that chanting of Gayatri not only helps the individual, but also the family, the home and the environment. Chanting the Gayatri mantra three times a day reduces the effect of wrong acts committed knowingly or unknowingly by a person, every day. Gayatri also prevents and cures diseases, wards off miseries and fulfils all good desires. Gayatri bestows on the chanter all that is beneficial. If the mantra is chanted properly, various powers can be derived. Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba says that Gayatri can be chanted by anyone, at any place, at any time – but should be chanted at least thrice daily, preferably more often.

We urge all SSIO members and spiritual seekers to participate in this programme and register for chanting the Gayatri at the website http://gayatri.sathyasai.org/. This will bring peace to the individual, the family, the society, the nation and the whole universe.

I pray to Bhagawan to bless us with strength and dedication to chant this mantra with love and one-pointedness.

Jai Sai Ram.

Lovingly in the Service of Sai,

Dr. Narendranath Reddy
